DUSU Elections Rocked by "Vote Chori" Scandal as NSUI Accuses ABVP of EVM Tampering

Voting underway amid shocking allegations of blue ink on EVMs, faculty coercion, and electoral malpractice.

Delhi University's prestigious student union election has been thrown into chaos by explosive allegations of electoral fraud, as voting continues for the DUSU 2025 polls. In a dramatic turn of events, NSUI presidential candidate Joslyn Nandita Choudhary was seen in tears alleging "vote chori" (vote theft) after discovering what she claimed were blue ink marks on EVM buttons next to the ABVP candidate's name at multiple colleges.

In a video that has since gone viral, a visibly distressed Choudhary claimed, "Every EVM machine has blue ink in front of Aryan Mann ABVP's name. Vote theft is happening openly. ABVP and college administration are all in it together!" The accusations quickly escalated, with NSUI National President Varun Choudhary asserting that the "RSS-BJP has brought its undemocratic and fraudulent tactics into Delhi University."

Administration Investigates "Mischievous" Incident

The serious nature of the claims prompted an immediate response from the university's Chief Election Officer, Professor Raj Kishore Sharma. He personally visited Hansraj and Kirori Mal colleges to investigate, calling the incident "mischievous" and noting it was "unusual for the same issue to surface at two separate colleges." Hansraj College administration has officially denied the allegations, stating that voting was being conducted under strict CCTV surveillance.

The ABVP has vehemently refuted all claims, dismissing them as a sign of desperation. "Just as the Congress blames EVMs for its defeat in every election, the NSUI is following the same pattern," stated ABVP National General Secretary Virendra Solanki. "ABVP is winning on all four seats, that's why NSUI is in panic mode."

Allegations of Violence and Coercion

The day has also been marked by allegations of violence and intimidation. The ABVP accused incumbent DUSU President Raunak Khatri (NSUI) of being involved in a scuffle that left a female student injured. In response, Joslyn Nandita Choudhary alleged that "goons and gangsters are standing outside every college" and attacking her supporters.

Further escalating the controversy, NSUI has also accused faculty members with RSS-BJP affiliations of casting votes in the names of absent students, a charge that threatens to implicate the university administration itself.

Results Awaited Amid Tense Atmosphere

Despite the turmoil, voting has continued, with a reported 35% turnout by 2:30 PM. The second phase of voting for evening colleges is currently underway. With vote counting scheduled for September 19, these explosive allegations have cast a dark shadow over what was meant to be a historic election. The results are now awaited with intense scrutiny, particularly in light of the High Court's recent warning that it could nullify the election if it is not conducted satisfactorily.
